- In architecture: A horizontal ledge formed by a reduction in wall thickness above a certain level. This ledge is also sometimes called a water table.
- In piping: A bend in a pipe that changes its direction.
- In piping systems: A change in direction that’s not a 90-degree turn. This might involve a combination of bends or elbows to bring pipes into alignment.
- In surveying: A short line measured perpendicularly from a known line to another point or line of interest. This helps locate the second line or point relative to the first.
